Kayak Fishing Tournament on Navarre BeachWhen most people think of fishing, they picture casting a line off a fishing boat, pier, or the water’s edge. But there’s another fun way to fish in the Gulf of Mexico and that’s by paddling a kayak out and keeping your balance while you reel in the fish of your dreams. OK, it might not be the biggest fish you ever caught, but it might.
And if you happen to register for the GOAT Offshore Kayak Fishing Tournament, scheduled for June 19, you might win cash prizes. The payout for this year’s prizes totals $9,000. If at least 250 anglers register, everyone who participates or attends the weigh-in will get a chance to win a $50,000 jackpot.
Last year was the first year for this tournament and the organizer is excited to see what this summer’s tournament will bring.
Organizers and anglers will gather at the parking lot near Windjammers on the Pier at 5 a.m. and use a specified crossover to reach the beach. At the first safe light, about 5:30 a.m., there will be shotgun start. Fishermen must return to shore no later than 2 p.m. The weigh-in begins at 3 p.m. and should last no more than two hours, according to the event application.
Two live acts will perform at Windjammers beginning at 1 p.m. The entertainment is free. Food and drink will be provided by Windjammers.
If you don’t have a kayak, or don’t fish, it’s still a fun place to be. Book your stay at one of Navarre Beach vacation rentals and get ready for this exciting weekend!
